v2: Support semi-monthly budget period
G
Gino G
Currently, setting a custom budget that repeats every 2 weeks or every 15 days doesn't work for income received on set days twice a month (eg. on the 15th and 31st), because not all months have the same number of days. This means that instead of consistent periods from 31st-14th and 15th-30th, you end up with 31st -13th, 14th-27th, 28th-10th, and so on.
The semi-monthly (or twice a month) option would take different month lengths into consideration and repeat consistently based on two anchor days (eg. new budget every 15th and 31st). 31st would automatically be the 30th or 28th instead depending on the month.

Customizing budget period allows for bi-weekly but not bi-monthly. If you're on salary, you get paid bi-monthly but there's no way to set that up because it's not the same as bi-weekly. That doesn't allow for recurrent income transactions.

I really love this app so far, but I am unable to set a budget based on paycheque or bi-weekly which is needed

Our new budgeting feature, currently in Beta testing, supports custom budgeting periods, including bi-weekly (every 2 weeks)! Get free early access at https://my.lunchmoney.app/community
Budgeting twice a month is not yet supported, so in the meantime I will merge this ticket into the semi-monthly budgeting request :)

Also just to add to this. We get paid on the 1st and 15th so you would not even have to account for short months just always 1st and 15th sure its a day off form 15th and 31st for one budget but simpler to program and easier to implement.. Or let us use 0.5 months as the input temporarily to include this. Should be quite simple to do a budget on 1st and 15th programmatically. This is actually preventing me from using your system so this lacking feature is turning customers away that you won't even know you lost. I guess i could do 1 month budgeting and then double up all my budgets but it is nicer when you can split it based on your income.

Bi-monthly meaning twice a month, i.e. the 1st and 15th (excluding weekends), or in my odd case, the 15th and last weekday of the month?

Does setting up a recurring income transaction not work well enough?

Weekly, too!

Agreed! And/or tools to help figure out how to budget monthly when you're paid biweekly. I can see the benefit of either.
