"Recurring expense" covers up the category box

I still want to be able to see the category for this expense and not just have it listed as "recurring expense"

I might be misunderstanding but you can change the rule that recurring expenses apply so they go to whatever category you specify. The only visual modification that I think you're talking about is the arrow that gets added to the amount column, not the category column.
